Further to the involvement of thirty-one Tameside primary schools in the ECAW (Every Child a Writer) national pilot, Tameside’s eLearning team, the ISDN6 programme, and Literacy Consultants Debs Bragard and Jane Creed have created a series of writing templates supporting a broad range of writing genre. These have been created in association with 2Simple Software, and use their 2Connect (mind-mapping) program as the base application. Developing this further, the ISDN and EMAT teams have created two mind map / web diagrams to support the writing up of science experiments. Originally developed to support the needs of secondary students, they are equally applicable to use in KS2, integrating as they do the features of web diagrams and writing frames. All resources can be downloaded below. Because 2Connect files are compressed files, they might not download in a straightforward manner and the easiest route to success is the following: Single left click on the particular file you’re interested in. A window pops up giving you the choice to ‘Open’ or ‘Save’ the file. Choose Save. Your computer may list the file to be saved with a file extension that reads .zip at the end. Delete the letters ‘zip’, replacing them with the letters ‘cn2’, ensuring that you keep the ‘.’ between the file name and the file extension. Once you have changed the file extension to cn2, click ‘Save’. You should now have a normal, useable 2Connect file ready to use. We’re sure you’ll find these resources a great support to help students plan and develop their writing.
